Portable device and gesture control method. The portable device (1) comprises a control unit (3) and an acceleration measuring module (2) on at least three different axes. The control unit (3) detects a trigger signal (400) executed by a user (10) carrying the portable device (1) prior to the execution of a command gesture (500) performed by the same user (10) and, from said detection, initiates the identification of the command gesture (500) using the acceleration data of the acceleration measuring module (2), and obtains an order (112) for control of a device, either the own portable device (1) or external device (5). The trigger signal can be a gesture that carries additional information that serves to determine the specific device, or a function thereof, to control.
